PART III - YOUR SPOUSE

Why did You Marry Your Spouse?

(Write your answer before continuing)

Perhaps you married for all the right reasons, or maybe you wanted to marry a doctor, a Las Vegas Showgirl, or to get citizenship. The fact that you are here means that you have at least some interest in making your marriage work.

Do not despair if your answers to the questions in the You and Your Spouse sections paint the picture of a marriage characterized by selfishness and poor communications. These two problems are at the heart of most struggling and failed marriages in the world today! Of course there are other issues, but the road to addressing all of them and to fixing one’s marriage is:

  1. Awareness of the Real Problems (Selfishness and Poor Communications),

  2. Introspection,

  3. Maturity through Education and Personal Development,

  4. Improved Communications, and

  5. Unselfish Behavior.

Maybe you or the person you married has changed dramatically. Maybe you think that you no longer love, or even never loved your mate. As mentioned early in this web site, love is a choice, and marriage is a serious commitment with far reaching implications for you, your spouse, your children, your families, your friends, and all of society.

No human is perfect and no marriage is perfect. Therefore, they can all be improved, and even little improvements can have a tremendous positive impact on a marriage. Part IV will provide more detail on the steps you (and hopefully your spouse) can take to this end.
